EGS Research Assistance Policy

The Elgin Genealogical Society conducts its research at the Gail Borden Public Library (GBPL) and the Elgin Area Historical Society Museum (EAHS). The genealogy collections at GBPL are strong in Elgin and Kane County sources, including a vital records newspaper index card file and microfilm of the local newspapers.

Queries to our website and regular mail are welcome. Any questions not requiring research will be answered free of charge. For all other questions, it is the Society's policy to require a non-refundable $10 donation for up to one hour of library research. These donations are used to purchase historical and genealogical reference materials for the GBPL genealogy section. Arrangements can be made for more extensive research. Cost of photocopies and postage will be charged as needed.

Please make questions clear, concise, and readable and be as specific as possible as to information needed. Also, please, include your e-mail address, if you have one. Census research is limited to what is in print and available at the library. No guarantee can be made regarding finding answers but each query will receive proper attention. Checks should be made payable to the EGS Acquisition Fund. Mail queries to Elgin Genealogical Society, PO Box 1418, Elgin, IL 60121-1418 or e-mail Elgin Genealogical Society
